I know someone who’s daughter did, recently. And it’s been WAR at their house. (“you can find a way to creep with a d-list celebrity but you can’t find a job?”)

Omarosa reciting what black people are taught and or realize to Bethenny (who’s show was cancelled not long afterwards)
Took them 3 days to kill a black woman but 8 months to fire a white dude. Okay.
Zoe also does not identify as being black. She's publically identified as being Dominican, but with all of the issues with anti-blackness there, I highly doubt Zoe views herself as a black woman
The real problem with casting Zoe Saldana is that she has benefitted from white supremacy in the industry; Nina was victimized by it. Though they are both black women, they represent almost entirely different existences, and it is this contradiction many black women have the most trouble with.
Nahh, it’s blackface. They chose a much lighter skinned actress with “acceptable” features to play a dark skinned woman with broader features and put her in hours upon hours of dark and heavy makeup and prosthetics. And now when she does press for it and interviews and photoshoots, she will be the acceptable shade…
I didn’t put any blame on her in the beginning however no one wanted to see her in this part including Nina Simone’s daughter and instead of respecting people’s wishes she ignored them went ahead and contributed to colorism in the movie industry and it is a serious problem that if you don’t know about you can ignore…
You know what makes it even better? The Twitter account is run by her daughter lol I am here for all of this she made her bed and signed up for a movie that has a colorism problem as well as a heteronormative issue and an age problem. And she signed on knowing that her daughter and the estate were not happy about it…
Hey, white people, do me a favor: Stop telling Black people what we should or should not be concerned about, what should matter to us, and that our concerns are “silly” or make no sense. No one knows more than we do about our own culture, and we don’t need your uninformed input. Wanna learn something? Cool, I’m sure…
I know right! It doesn’t help that Zoe thinks she is beyond color and loves the smell of her own crap!
Nina Simone wasn’t part Black, she was all Black. The way she looked was intrinsic to her life experiences and her story. Nicole Kidman wearing a fake nose to play Virginia Woolf has a different meaning than it has in this context, as do lots of things for non-white people. In this context, a woman who is a “more…
Still some bullshit. How insulting to Nina Simone, what she stood for, what she went through specifically because she was darker-skinned woman with full lips and an obviously African nose. Her daughter wasn’t consulted and is against this movie, not only because of the ridiculous casting and use of darkening makeup,…
I will never understand people that continue with posthumous biopics when the person’s family is against it. It seems SO disrespectful.
Watch What Happened, Miss Simone?, because a documentary is almost always better than a biopic—and this documentary is sensational.
Now at this point in Kyle’s story, the part of me who is the teenager who came of age in Brooklyn started bubbling up– and my hands started itching to take my earrings out and hold them while I got CRAZY.
And with many Bernie supporters saying they won’t vote for Hillary, we could lose.
There are so many people/institutions who should be required to apologise to these students, I’ve lost count. The university. The Trump campaign. The people who stood by and did nothing. The Secret Service.
“the school district has sued the state to prevent the release of the investigation’s details.”
Obviously, they know what a PR nightmare this will continue to be - (deservedly so!)
...that he explained immediately as a clock. And yet that still somehow warranted an interrogation by the police without his parents being contacted and a three day suspension.
They didn’t believe that clock was a bomb for even a minute, though. They snapped pictures of it, posed around the thing, didn’t evacuate the school, and sent the kid to the principal’s office. You don’t send a bomber to get a stern talking-to.
