My summation of this episode was basically, here's an effort to get Rapaport an Emmy for guest star. There is that category, it was one of the ones that got new rules just recently, that you have to have been on less than a certain number of episodes to qualify. (OITNB and others were seen as exploiting it)

I always encourage people to read this book, especially socially liberal, educated northerners like myself. It is so compelling and yet so repugnant, and is one of the few true glimpses I've ever had into the Confederate mindset that it can teach us a lot about ourselves as a country and the racial issues that still

Sitting around drawing pictures of his junk may be the most realistic thing a teenaged boy has ever done on a network sitcom.

To be fair, I did read they were going for a 30 Rock feel. Which many have said is basically a backstage look at The Muppet Show. If they can get a quirky PG-13 level of humor and stay true to the characters it may not be as bad as some are making it sound. As someone said below, a Park and Rec vibe.

But he's still doing it to please the previous generation, just for a different reason than he told Sally.

Yeah, Carol is definitely the most sympathetic character. And Melissa would be nice, but I just can't get past seeing Betty Draper and assuming she's a bitch. Todd is cool as well, and may become a good favorite to root for now that 'new Phil' is giving him a darker side.

I found it interesting that we saw through Sally the biggest mention of the anti war movement we've had. Being a boomer that makes sense as a hot button issue for her. And it was a nice contrast that Glen changed his mind about the war, in light of his oddly adult demeanor and need for adult approval as a child.

I'm not bothered by the hazy timeline in general, but, to be honest, the glaring discrepancy within the same episode bothered me. I think it rings false to me when it plays with current events rather than pop culture. I can pretend New Kids and Ferris happened at the same time, but the 84 election happening after

And the Mondale Reagan election was in 84.

For me it's not so much lamenting Oliver not actually taking over, because LWT is amazing, but rather just looking at it from CC's perspective. They must be kicking themselves on that count.

He actually has used You and We pretty fluidly, with we more and more over the years. But he's got a green card now anyway, so he's on his way to being legally American.

He has a fresh perspective, and his relationship with America is an unknown quantity at this point. We just have to be patient and see what happens when he takes over. Oliver used his outsider's perspective to great advantage in both being bewildered by and embracing the foibles of America.

The only way there wasn't going to be backlash on the choice was if they got a HUGE name like Poelher or Fey or if Jon had retired sooner and they gave it to Oliver who proved he had the chops already. Even with Oliver there was trepidation when Jon went to shoot his movie. He proved himself in the chair, which is

X files destroyed Mimi Rogers for me. At least she was still slimy here, so it worked.

I'm still taking the credit sequence literally and assuming he's going to jump out of a window at the end.

It's a kinda wonderful paradox. Just like the relationship between Peggy and Joan, a giant Madonna/whore complex that infects the women just as much as the men. And still exists today.

No Peggy/Don. Never…she deserves better.

It stays in the back of my head as well for some reason.

I actually wondered if it was a sly cross series callback. Sweaty Teddy is on this show in a recurring role as well, remember.

I'd like to see 2-3 mythology episodes bookending a couple of MOTW, just like the old season format in miniature. Need to see resolution on 2012 and William, but would love to see some nice compact stand alones as well.
