This is pretty standard in Tony Gilroy movies btw. Bourne Identity had multiple endings filmed, he had no idea what it would be on Legacy either.

Probably this, and the thing that happened in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Which is where marketing saw a shot of something that had been cut, and they just said screw it we’ll put it in the trailer. Directors don’t necessarily have full control of that part.
