That’s how ‘all’ women were raised- to get a man to support you financially. They had to be raised that way since women were kept out of almost all jobs and all well-paying jobs. She was a young woman just as women were starting to get into the paid work force a tiny little bit. 

Yes, I think by the time Jackie was working for S&S, it had long been out of the family’s hands...or maybe not. But it sure is now.

If it makes you feel any better, that condo is probably worth $750k now, so everyone got screwed. 

TBF, her father was dead by then, and he’d gotten muscled out of the business some time before he died (cite: her other memoir, Boys in Trees).
