What a strange girl you are. Flung out of space.

I dunno about this take, man. I am not generally one of those “person X’s known awfulness must be invoked every single time their work is discussed in perpetuity” kind of people. And yes, she’s dead.
Seems a bit disingenuous to call out Weinstein's awfulness but ignore Highsmith's.
well, as a canadian, our thanksgiving is in october, but you cannot start christmas crap until AFTER rememberance day.
In the interview he discusses his fiancé’s sense of privacy and how it differs from Penn’s own nature of being very open while in the public eye.
Mariah would have earned a TON of goodwill had she come out the very same way, did a fakeout and advocated for waiting until after Thanksgiving.
Fuck me her Christmas song is one of the worst ever made. Put on some Nat King Cole or Vince Guaraldi Trio, and only in December.
Its complicated as you can't just copyright your life and prevent inspirations. But true crime as a genre is quite scummy and rarely does it care about the victims. If you want to feel like shit, look up how the Jack the Ripper victims or Elizabeth Short are treated, its pretty disgusting. She also has been through…
Meili wasn’t the main character of that story. I get what you’re saying, and you’re right that it can be a complicated issue, but those two perspectives share very little in common. Knox has a lot more overlap with the Central Park Five than with Meili, and as far as I know, they were consulted for the show. Meili was…
As I said elsewhere, I don’t know how I feel. This is awful for Knox, but Ava DuVernay didn’t care about Trisha Meili’s story when she made When They See Me.
I’m sure it isn’t for most people who make the news. It’s not like the guys trapped in the mine or the survivors in the Andes or even the war hero or the civil rights champion set out for fame.
I don't know how I feel about this. It sucks for her and I feel for her. But it's too similar to the Central Park Five. The story of a woman who was raped and beaten is now the story of five young men who were falsely accused. I don't know who has the right to a story that effects multiple people.
Yeah, basically every other Law & Order episode was an obvious reference to a real case (including at least one based on Amanda Knox’s case).
I mean, almost every work of crime fiction takes inspiration in one way or another from actual events. I don’t think anyone is going to look at the film and think it’s trying to be an accurate representation of her experiences.
I agree with you. People hear stories all the time and it inspires them in all sorts of ways.
It’s like Guede is getting away with murder a second time.
I totally agree with you. Italy has a lot to answer for. As for the amount they gave her, that’s standard in Europe - they’re not litigious the way the US is and awards/damages are capped. Not that it’s a bad thing - the US is a ridiculously litigious society and I hope that shit doesn’t spread to the rest of the…
Unless I misunderstood the article, the film doesn’t mention her name and the filmmakers just said the story is directly inspired by Amanda Knox. There’s nothing illegal about that, or uncommon. I mean, Law and Order built a franchise on it. It would be different if they had made a movie that was about Amanda Knox,…
As she explains, Knox lost all control of her own personal narrative when she was imprisoned and throughout her ordeal, news coverage chose to center her not just as a villain but as a True Crime starlet, effectively erasing Meredith Kercher’s existence and ignoring the actual murderer, Rudy Guede.
I’m sorry but anyone can tell a story that’s inspired by a true story. No one owns it. She doesn’t have to like it but the filmmakers didn’t have to consult with her either. Plus, she already wrote her book and made her money so anyone who wants to know what the real Amanda thinks, can just buy her book.
