Not quite. It’s akin to shredding the paper, that’s for sure. But the shreds are out there and not completely disposed as the password manager does re-assemble all the pieces to give you the password back.

I’m with you on this. Password managers = putting all passwords in one basket. What makes it worse is that the ‘basket’ is totally out of your sight and in the cloud.
