Actually, they did get cancelled. Steve and Laura were supposed to get married the next year after Steve came back from space in the season finale, but nope. Became a series finale.

They cared for the first few seasons. Part of the appeal was that it really felt like the 50s. Then it got popular and they were basically promoting the actors instead of a show.
Good point, but I have to admit, the forest scene makes me laugh for some reason while the shark jump does not. I dunno…different levels of absurdity?
The last few seasons blew, but I do still enjoy seeing Tom Hanks show up late in the run and challenge The Fonz.
Haha yeah it is quite jarring if you watch seasons 1 and 11 back to back. Cliff is accusing Irish men of being Hitler at that point. Still, I think it aged a hell of a lot better than Happy Days.
