As a professional who works in this field, it blows my mind that true crime/serial tv shows about sexual assault have become so popular recently (SVU certainly helped kick off the trend). I’d love to read an article about people who love it and why. I think there’s a deep well of interesting stuff to learn there.

I got sick of SVU around the time I realized it was hard to watch women get raped/murdered/abused over and over and over again. As a survivor, it’s vindicating to see so many victims believed, but it’s also frustrating because I know it’s not reality.

If it were Scheer or Bernier, we’d be livid because they have histories of actual racism, not just this weird costume fetish. Trudeau’s been PM for four years, we don’t have to worry about what’s in his “heart of hearts” or if he has any racist bones in his body. We have four years of actual governance to judge him

He accepted it, regretted the behavior, and is actually trying to do good. I think it would be foolish to completely disregard him in favor of the opponent. I hope your fellow Canadians are wise enough to see past his idiotic past decisions.

Obviously this is really inappropriate and he shouldn’t have done it, but saying you’ve “always been more enthusiastic about costumes than is sometimes appropriate” is hilarious.

A lot, not all, but a lot, of the people that will bring this party up as proof Trudeau is racist, will be the same people accusing him of “destroying the country with immigrants or “bending over backwards” for people of colour.

I genuinely think this culture of grinding terror is as bad as the shootings themselves (like, in terms of the average school student; an actual shooting is much worse, but still only a tiny chance of it actually happening, whereas this is less traumatic than the real thing, but happens routinely to everyone). This is

Same. My partner’s American, first baby’s due next week. People ask all the time, here and there, would we move to the States? Nope. We’ll visit, we love visiting, I would consider doing a couple of months maybe, as a sabbatical or something. But (a) don’t want to risk getting bankrupted by medical bills thanks, (b)

America: where “abortion is murder” and worthy of political activism but the actual murders of living, breathing children are met with political apathy at best.

that’s my thought too!! the shooters are in the class learning where the kids will hide and what they’ll do when he decides to get his parents guns and shoot up the place!!! my 2 year old had to do an active shooter drill and they didn’t warn us about it ahead of time, she came home talking about hiding from “the bad

My son is 2 and a half. Yesterday they had a drill called “rabbits in the hole” where all the children hide silently around the classroom. I’ve been having a really hard time with it.

I am a special education advocate and the mother of an autistic child. We have been having to deal with this in terms of what the school plans are to evacuate and protect disabled children. How do you keep an autistic child “quiet as a mouse” when he/she is scared which means agitation and anxiety peak, they will

I used to work for a company with offices in the UK and one of my colleagues over there was married to an American woman. They had two kids. I asked if he ever considered moving to the States and before I even finished the sentence he said “No. Guns.” And I was like “ ... Yeah.” Because, what can you say, really?

Welcome to the new world where a douchebag can go shoot up 7 year olds and you get:

I have an 11-year-old and a 6-year-old. We left the US (for Canada) two years ago, and just relocated to Germany. A HUGE part of our reason for leaving is that I enjoy sending my children to school and not worrying about the threat of gun violence preventing their safe return home.

It really just shows that... you’re American more than anything else.

This is fucked up. I have two boys who are 8 and 11. My 8-year-old gets anxious about the drills, and I had to hold back tears when he told me his teacher was telling the class that she’s strong and “can fight” to protect them, and showed them an alternate exit. He then explained to me how he’d run from “the shooter

Never Forget: America hates its children.
