Judging by the trailer, Kate Hudson’s “Brooklyn-ish accent” is actually a pretty solid attempt at a New Orleans (specifically Yat) accent. Contrary to popular belief, most people in NOLA don’t sound like Scarlett O’Hara or Bobby Boucher.

Also should read “LCD Soundsystem.” It’s like they put the space in the wrong place, except it’s also wrongly spelled “Sound System” in the article itself.
The Killers are famously from Las Vegas, so kind of weird to see them listed as one of the “buzzy New York-based bands that were supposed to save rock ‘n roll in the early 2000s.”
Was it eligible? I don’t know about LA, but it didn’t open in NYC until last month. It might be nominated for next year’s awards.
Me too, in fact it was one of my favorite movies from last year. It’s one of the best fictional depictions I’ve seen of not only what it feels like to be an overweight young woman in the US, but also the struggles with losing weight, internal & external (including the sabotage from so-called friends). I’m astonished…
Dowd is the film editor, so he chose to review this!
He used to be the AV Club’s Editor in Chief, in better times. Also check out his Project Runway reviews from back in the day - they singlehandedly justify the TV recap industry.
I don’t know where you quit reading the article, but there are three paragraphs that talk about this. The first paragraph (which also includes a link!) is the one starting with “Okay, okay, I’ll stop.”
The article originally said he was 43 years old before it was revised to the (still possibly erroneous) “fortysomething.”
It certainly feels it.
The real mystery is how he was 12 years old in 1992 but 43 in 2019.
FYI, her name is spelled “Rosanne” not “Roseanne.”
The Documentary Now spoof was on ‘Original Cast Album: Company,’ about a different Sondheim show. The doc IMHO is referring to is called ‘The Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened,’ which just came out a couple years ago.
That poster is glorious.
Not true - his wife was born Janet Templeton.
This is my opinion as well. I also suspect he’s running for president less because he genuinely expects to get the nomination and more to raise his profile and keep his name out there for the next US senate race in Texas.
Christ, someone puts together a playlist with The Saints, The Scientists, The Only Ones & The Damned and you’re dinging it for being “power-pop punk of late-70s suburbia”? Clearly your punk bona fides are more questionable than Beto’s.
Yes, at least we don’t have Karlie judging every design based on how good she would look in it.
Yes, which is why it’s such a surprise that her advice is so good!
Yes, that was also a great example of a multiple-reveal design that wasn’t gimmicky!
