I’ve always assumed that “bear arms” was a simple misspelling. Since many of the framers were from the South, they simply wanted to make sure that Congress would never infringe their rights to bare arms in the summer.

The NRA is suing because the law would prevent 18-year olds from buying firearms and therefore violates the Second Amendment, which states (in its entirety) “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
