This is actually semi-hilarious because I have multiple friends who do *just this* and they are awesome people. I even have a friend who does this with *human children*. It’s called fostering.

If a person has BPD, treatment will last years and may be ongoing throughout the person’s life. It is a chronic and treatment resistant condition.
BPD is somewhat unique because you can have periods of psychosis when the patient is at their most acute. I can see how in an acute state (especially post-OD and in the ICU) it might be difficult to distinguish.
When I was in middle school I remember being home alone (I was sick) and watching Columbine unfold on the news. It was devastating. I wonder if I could go back and tell 12 year old me that this would happen so many more times and it’d just keep happening if I’d even have believed it.
I really think Night Nanny’s need to become a more popular thing during those first 6 months. Even if it’s just an occasional night. Frankly, in cases where it gets bad enough that it’s contributing to ppd, insurance paying for such a service would make some sense.
I suspect if we took a time machine back to our…
Wait, WHAT? That’s crazy cheap.
I need to make some phone calls and see. I could do $100 or so a month towards treatment, and I’m OK with going less than biweekly since there’s some evidence that 4-6 weeks is better (but longer).
I’ve tweezed before. The issue is 1.) I have to let it grow out and 2.) it takes for fricking ever. I don’t have a few hairs, I have a small beard going on.
I want to get laser hair removal (should be a good candidate- dark hair. light skin), I just need to figure out how to pay for it.
So I have to cover a shadow from my lady facial hair on my chin. It’s an 8 a.m. shadow because it’s there right after I shave (thanks, light skin, dark hair, and crappy genes). Anyway, I recently figured out to apply the yellow concealer relatively thickly, and THEN use the powder over it, and it was basically life…
A lot of the people who would say they never met a muslim have met a muslim- it’s not like muslims wear ID badges. Unless you’ve met a woman wearing a classic niqab or hijab, there’s nothing really obvious.
I only really believe it if you live in a rural area and have never ventured farther than your local very small,…
Ideal world, I wouldn’t have professional child entertainers.
If we had a national restriction that was something like they could work no more than 20 hours a week for no more than 16 weeks a year (and if they take the kid out of country to work it also counts), it’d do quite a bit to curtail their use. Enforcement is…
I think child entertainers will always be a thing to some extent (until either CGI kids get super realistic or robot kids get super realistic), but there should be much more restrictive laws regarding their work hours, working conditions, and the amount the parent can profit.
Most americans haven’t met a muslim? WUT? There are 3.3 million muslims in the US- most americans have met a muslim.
Nah, I’m not saying he has dementia. But something is going on. Probably bipolar w/ psychotic features or something thereabouts based on current behavior/previous reports, although obviously, I’m not his doctor. It was just an analogy.
It’s possible to be an asshat and also (obvs I’m not his doctor so I’m speculating) be manic with psychotic features. And probably on some drugs.
He’s kind of like the dementia patient throws their dinner tray and starts hurling racist slurs. Except it’s weirder because he’s actually black, and that behavior is almost…
Yes. 100% this.
You hit the nail on the head. Even without the suicide scene, the overarching plot is so problematic. I mean, there are literally trainings for therapists on how to handle 13 Reasons Why with their clients.
It is REALLY hard to work with suicidal people because of the potential for even benign comments to worsen their…
Yep. It creates a martyr. Her death goes to some sort of greater good because it makes people become better people and/or face the consequences of their actions.
As a disclaimer- I understand there are deeper meanings. I get it. I’m not faulting people who like the show. I AM faulting the showrunners AND netflix for…
This show is so problematic. Like wow problematic.
The thing with this president is things that SHOULD be extremely significant and that we should be talking about, aren’t talked about, because there is just SO MUCH going on that is significant.
It’s like how we focus on plane crashes, but not car crashes. Not because car crashes aren’t often tragic, but mostly because…
It’s also notable that changes in policy are also involved. During the recession SNAP was extended to more people (notably unemployed adults without children, who traditionally have a time limit for SNAP benefits), and it’s been slowly pulled back since.
