In the case of the story, I feel like the CGI was needed as Tarkin is essential to the Empire side of the movie. Leia wasn’t necessarily required but was appreciated. If the CGI of late actors isn’t for the story, opposite to Rogue One’s reason, and is done purely because they know how, then I’m not for it.
