Fun fact - the same Aisin gearbox is used in the Saturn Sky Redline and Solstice GXP (and Daewoo g2x/Opel GT turbos) with slightly different 3rd gear ratio. They’re not the nicest shifting boxes but they are pretty tough little buggers.

Eh, at least the OG Hummer was pretty much bullet-proof, so there was some reasoning behind that. The H3 was just a flimsy piece of junk.
That’s the biggest issue. No one shopping for a decent well-used truck is going to throw Hummer into the mix to compete on the merits. It’s for a specific driver.
I “like” this Hummer. Simply because it’s the”best” off-road. But I always feel I must make a point (yes I’m that special kind of asshole) about how..... Well insulting the Hummer brand was. People playing soldier driving to jujitsu class, while real soldiers were dying in the real thing.
This is not the stick shift you have in your mind. The gear spacing is awful and the throws are looong. Plus, these were slow with the 5.3L V8, I can’t imagine how painfully slow they are with the I5.
So you want a hummer from a stripper?
You may be right, but it’s a sliding scale. All of the issues that you listed would be indicative of abuse in a 30k mile vehicle, but are just evidence of use in a 186k mile vehicle. If an abused vehicle makes it to 186k miles, it tends to look considerably worse than this.
This appears to be the one kind of truck that really appeals to me: the stripper.
one of my friends has a H3. aside from the interior being so small for as big as the truck is on the outside, it’s a great little runner. and the I5 is a good engine too.
You can fit 35" w/o modifying anything at all, no t-bar adjustment needed. Source - I’m running 35" on an ‘08 H3
That’s right in line with pricing for Cherokees and wranglers in similar good condition. Give the torsion bars a twist, throw on some 33's, and go have fun.
That is a brilliant idea. I have so many cars I can never remember where reverse is located in the gearbox.
“I have found that, for example, owner’s manuals for 1998 Mitsubishi Monteros are annoyingly hard to find and often expensive”
Looks like I have a new side hustle.
I don’t think it’s quite as bad as it looks, most of the funkiness in corners and edges is due to what appears to be 1/8" thick OD paint that’s curled back from wherever it was breached.
It’s rough.
I love the NPoCP’s that people cant rush on to Autotrader and point out what other comparable POS they can get at comparable prices.
In photos the new Silverados look bad. In person they look like somebody cut a normal truck in half, horizontally, added a little extra truck in between and put it back together even though it didn’t really fit properly.
Does Jalopnik pay a bonus for anyone that I can think of a way to write a negative GM article? The fact is that the new Silverado is a good looking truck.
I have no idea what these things are worth, but it is the 4th and this looks patriotic, so NP.
Thanks Jalop! This article is about me and tomorrow I’m going to look at all the cars suggested plus a 328d wagon that someone mentioned in the comments.
However, I think Erik was having a bit of fun about the no kids business since I stated that I do not and will not be having kids. Weird flex, but okay.
If I could…
