I don't think you can separate the two—if you are making a large quantity of cheap garbage, it's still garbage and you're not going to get anyone to watch. In fact, if you water down the quality of your shows, you are just going to lose the viewers that you do have.

I think more episodes is the opposite of the solution that is needed. Most of these shows tend to drag on and have poorly-written filler episodes due to the shear number of episodes that need to get done each year.
