We think a lot about video game preservation in the sense of roms and lost Sega Genesis games but there’s something to be said of preserving certain online game modes as they were. Gears of War 2 (Jesus that game is ten years old now?) was my jam back in the day and when it launched it had what some might consider an

Soma’s biggest hurdle is that the story is really interesting and after a few hours the monsters and sneaking gameplay is not.  Seek out every audio log you can as they really liven up the characters and the devs did a great job making the place feel alive.  The game poses some great sci-fi questions (I played through

I’ve wanted to get Everything for so long as a big David O’Reilly fan and a big Alan Watts fan. Also I hit the epilogue (1) of RDR2 last night and at the moment I’m not really happy about it.  I kind of wish that the games either committed to a big real finish of an ending and then said “go load your last save if you

You’re an absolute beast MisterNoone taking on a game like freaking Phatasy Star II in the year of our gourd 2018.  The quality of life improvements we’ve made since Sega Genesis JRPGs are going to be glaring when they’re all missing from a long ass game.

Hitman seems like such a well made game that’s lovingly crafted by people who are at the top of their game but sadly it also just doesn’t seem like a game for me.  47 is very much your tool for that world in which you conceive these little traps for evil millionaires and I admire the hell out of the game but every

I finished the main story of Red Dead Redemption 2 last night so I haven’t had a lot of time to chew on it but here are my thoughts anyway. Kinja doesn’t have spoiler tags as far as I can tell so

Kong Skull Island was a step in a better direction for them but the super somber tone they go for in these has always seem to been counter-intutitive the goofy fun of the original kaiju series (I know the first was somber anti-nuke movie don’t @ me).

No ‘big equestrian reveal in the basement’ from Sorry to Bother You makes this list 100% invalid. That was one of the best and most startling scenes I’ve seen in any movie period.  I’m gonna be writhing this award season as that film gets routinely snubbed.

The game’s open world is a teaming stew of emergent gameplay but you should know the vast majority of missions are those terrible follow the leader missions that drag down so many open world games.  Really wish Rockstar would grow past those.

I was where you were about a week ago and there’s a lot more left than you’d think.  I started rushing everything in Chapter 6 and was like “wow, it just keeps going huh?”.  Still not done but I think I’m in striking distance.

Gamestop often sells Refurbished PS4 bundles where you get a refurbished PS4 and some games for under $300. I don’t know if anything will top that Spiderman one before christmas.

Both those games are great where God of War is more fun for it’s gameplay and tightly scripted story and Red Dead has less fun actual gameplay but an incredibly cohesive and immersive world feel.  You can probably find GoW cheaper and it’s honestly a great game even without the stellar story so I’d recommend that one.

If you loved Half Life 2 just wait until you play the thrilling conclusi... oh wait.

Firewatch is so good it’s crazy. I played the game with my wife on the couch and we were split on the ending. Surprisingly she was let down by the seeming fake out of a conspiracy and I felt it fit perfectly with the themes of escapism and trying to leave your responsibilities behind.

That was a beautiful write up Shin. God of War really did lean hard into an honest portrayal of family fears and dynamics and I love how you tied that into your own personal stories to shine a light on the way the game succeeded. That’s probably the best writing I’ve read on that stellar game yet. And then you

I’m going to talk about Red Dead Redemption 2 again so buckle in cowpoke cuz here’s a story about how one of it’s systems led to some amazing emergent gameplay for me. The game’s got it’s Greet & Antagonize system that seems fairly simple at first glance. Say Greet and Arthur drops an inane hello and observation

You had me at Donut.

I had no interest in this game from the start but am absolutely loving the savage cavalacade of beatings it’s taking the video game press. Keep the Schadenfreude coming baby!

Replace SNES classic with Raspberry Pi and I’m in the same boat though this article has me thinking about if they released a GBA classic with a nice LED screen and 30 classics from Golden Sun to Super Mario World 2 loaded up... I’d probably buy it.

The amount of incidental dialogue in this game that is never heard by most players has to be insane.  So many weird little vignettes you can stumble upon in camp with those characters.  Also Abigail rules.
