Wow! - There's the bones of a great screenplay in that story.

I would be happy to point out that Danica Patrick, female that she is, has never won any race in a Formula One car. Hundreds of people, on the other hand, have won official Formula One races and events in Formula One cars. They aren't always FIA-sanctioned events, but most of the time they win fair and square.

But what about least successful, but 10th sexiest.

Ahem.

The great Michelle Mouton has been mentioned already so I'd like to propose:

Lyn St. JamesDefinitely the best.

Michele, by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar. Most dangerous era of a probably the most dangerous motorsport. And she fought for the title.

The other female racing driver that comes to mind is Janet Guthrie - while she didn't have a huge career in racing, she was the first woman to qualify and compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500.

Have you actually looked at her finishing record in Indy? She was not 'successful', she had a few lucky results and a LOT of mediocre ones, despite often being in the best cars/teams. Go through the Indy statistics and see if you know any names that have more podiums than her. I bet you'd find ten names at least with

Hey Ralphy, cross post this for the Jezzies so they can see that we're not all bad ;)

Shirley Muldowney...

That wasn't a facepalm-worth quote, he was dead on. I've seen Danica race since she was 17/18. None of you would have a clue who she was if she wasn't attractive and so marketable. If she was male with her results nobody at all would know her name and she wouldn't have got in the teams she did in the last 8 years. It

Shirley Muldowney.

Easy. My vote goes to Michèle Mouton. Amazing Group B driver, and 24hrs of Le Mans class winner. I may be biased though since Group B is my favorite motorsport by far.

Lella Lombardi! Scored half a point in the spanish grand prix in 1975. The first and only woman to score points in Formula One!

After suffering through another facepalm-worthy quote (this time from Richard Petty) about Danica Patrick only getting attention because she's a woman, it seemed like a good time to go over the most successful women drivers in auto racing history.
