shearing implies a shear strain, parallel surfaces sliding past one another. i can’t think of a time when a steering shaft would ever be able to shear. its slip fit splines on both ends and it simply rotates as the steering wheel turns even if the shaft itself happened to have torque itself and end up looking like…
