I get my Miata fix by driving my son’s Miata from time to time. He just moved out of state so not sure what I’m going to do now. The only other cars that can give me the Miata driving grin are the original BMW Z3, Boxster/Cayman and 911. Lambo, Ferrari, Vette...nope.
While you don’t need to FEEL the hype, it’s absurd to make a claim that you don’t get it. Let’s look at a few of the things.

Some people have what I call “car blindness”. They can see the color of a car, but that’s about it. No other details register. My wife has this affliction. I consider it almost crippling.

I’m a Z car guy, I’ve owned a 72-240, 74.5-260, and 2-300ZX Z32s one of which I still have. The VG30DE and DETT engines are really fantastic when they are kept in good shape.
