A few years ago, I’d put on a little bit of weight and was shopping for new clothes with my mum. I tried a few pairs of jeans and asked her opinion and she said ‘in my day, women your size didn’t wear jeans’.

I might just be bitter about this one, but my experience of people who want partners to be close to their families has been that they’re pretty smug and have narrow worldviews.
