I mean, as an American, I live in a country in which black kids go to schools named after the men who fought to keep their ancestors enslaved. I feel like we have no leg to stand on in criticizing other countries for not coming to terms with historical atrocities.

Fair enough. The problem I had was, fair or not, I can’t read individual posts in isolation, or even individual websites in isolation—instead, I view your post on foreign culture through the prism of American media coverage of foreign culture generally. And given American media’s utter and complete failure on that

Care to elaborate? What were you trying to do, then? Because phrases like “How you choose to reconcile your country’s legacy of systematic murder of six million souls is totally up to you. Looks like part of your process is a zany 90-minute comedy where Hitler wakes up from his bunker in modern day Berlin and tries to

Uh and you think Germany doesn’t think of its nazi legacy? That Germans aren’t extremely careful of any neonazi resurgence?

Thank you for writing this. Seriously, thank you. It s needs to be said and it has every single time there’s an article about anything remotely non-American on here.

Yeah, if any nation on earth has any moral ground to be finger-waving at Germany, it sure as hell is not the USA.

EXACTLY. the article in the Guardian she cites makes the true purpose of the movie clear. I don’t think she even read it other than the quote she used, which by the way, was not the director’s full quote included in the Guardian. She took it completely out of context. Really annoying.

Germany has pretty much done everything one would want them to do in terms of dealing with their guilt in WW2. The country is deeply wracked with guilt about it, for the most part. Of course, there are bigots everywhere, but Germany is handling their history the right way.

But that’s literally what they do. They own what they’ve done. When I was living in Germany working as a nurse for severely disabled children, one of the first things said to me was how during the Holocaust people like the ones I was working with were killed. Now they’re treated like actual humans beings and at least

This. People don’t realise how thoroughly and completely Germany has dealt with its past. If most countries did even half of what they have done, the world would be better off. But hey, who cares about facts, as usual, it’s just Jezebel is trying to manufacture unjustified outrage over comedy.

Only of course Germany is probably the only country who did think about what elements of their culture allowed for atrocities to take place and the only country to openly and continuously condemn their past. For fucks sake, up until the World Cup in 2006 Germans were even uncomfortable waving their flags for fear of

Creepy. Also she’s not a natural redhead. Sorry not sorry to rain on your discomfiting parade.

LOL Redheads have some of the creepiest stans, second only to Asians.

I can tell you I’ve been a 14 year old girl and I was friends with 17 year old boys. 17 year old boys are not on a level with 14 year old girls, they are very much on the same level as 17 year old girls. Society just likes to look at girls and think they are more mature than they are, so men can fuck them sooner.

This is so ridiculous because it suggests all women mature at the same rate, as well as all men. It’s insane. It has no bearing. Go away.

14 year old girls aren’t women, they’re children. So it doesn’t matter how much faster women mature than men.

I'm just going to come right out and say it —- no fourteen year old should date a seventeen year old. And we should discontinue the assertion that girls are more mature than boys. It justifies nothing.

Granted, this is referring to the US and not the UK.
