Great is a relative term. Not a big fan of having to rebuild an engine every few years. Hence, LS swap.

LS V-8s are incredibly simple to maintain, very reliable, and make lots of power. The Wankel in the FD eats apex seals every few years. You have to pull and re-build the engine all the time.

jalopnik should do a question of the day on what makes an engine swap acceptable and what makes them not.

The S197s are pretty good stock. They're STAGGERINGLY better modified, but let's be honest, you shouldn't be painting the Boss 302 and a Fox GT with the same brush.

You are wrong. 2005+ were great by any measure other than exterior space to interior space ratio. Of those, maybe the styling sucked 2005-2010. Other than that, they went, stopped, and turned very well. Only magazines writers and the underexposed complained about the rear axle.
