I am not an American, but I lived there for a time, and I would say that your last statement is a big part of it. The idea that if you raise up the standard of living for the lowest people, everyone benefits, even the people at the top, doesn't seem to compute in the American consciousness. Most people who get

I am sure it is in some areas, already. Isn't there a neighbourhood in a major American city that still doesn't provide indoor clean running water? I can't remember where it is exactly, it was featured in a radio documentary two or three years ago.

Most things about Kelsey are creepy and douchey.

People who are truly poor usually don't get to be ice skaters or ballet dancers, either.

Okay, I posted the judge's (work) phone number here, but my wife convinced me to take it down. My logic was "If he doesn't want to get raped in the ear, he can just change it to something less provocative", but I suppose that reasoning is flawed.

They mean "don't abandon your baby in a garbage can/the woods", right? I personally think it would be a better world if people who really didn't want babies, abandoned them at hospitals or fire stations.

I bought one of the purses from the M by Madonna line that was at H & M, and it is so well-made. All of the zippers, gromets and seams have lasted perfectly, and the leather with which it was made has mellowed and softened beautifully, with heavy use. Quality in a celeb fashion line - who knew?

They may not have "brought it down", but they've had enough of an effect that I know someone who is writing their PhD thesis on the Anon vs. $ci war; so at least their actions are considered sufficiently relevant to generate a defensible thesis.

Renee Martin comes immediately to mind, however, there has been some friction between her and this site, which makes me reluctant to link to her blog from here, out of respect.

actively encouraging people of colour to adopt and foster children in sufficient numbers so that it is no longer an issue for them."

Actually, it's becoming more and more apparent that, sociologically speaking, people who engage in bullying behaviour have an inflated sense of entitlement and over-estimate their abilities; they're not insecure.

"it seems a little silly that a rule like this existed in the first place."

In a society that privileges whiteness, whites will be over-represented in the economic class of people who are in an position to adopt overall. Also, when you are sending in outsiders to assess homes for "fitness", whites are more likely to live out the norms the assessors are looking for, and that will lead them to

A SILLY opinion.

I am indeed. Montrealaise, actually. I think of myself as "Canadian-plus".
