That depends on your beliefs. I believe in a society that is open about sex and sexual attraction. There is nothing wrong with being attracted to one sex or the other and paying to see it. If someone is ok with providing that service (and often even enjoy it), who are we to judge? Recognizing sexual attraction doesn't

Because of demographics. It's a fact that the core gaming market has been largely male for a long time, it's taken quite a bit for the ratio to rise for females, but it is still not close to even (casual/mobile gaming markets are different). You make your product for a demographic you think will sell best. The games

For now, I'm gonna avoid games where you can choose your gender and try to stick to games where the female character is the only protagonist.

So, women, no matter what their actions, are still just acting under the clench of a male hierarchy? They self-police to ensure that they are conforming to the standards set forth by a male-centric system?

Zelda can defend herself though. It's just that she's usually captured by a much stronger force. Can't think of other Princesses besides her and Peach.

Why not? Pretty much they are all based on those 'olden days', but with magic. Guys have been kidnapped in games too. First one comes to mind if Bad Dudes and that

The article made a point that "as far back as 1992" was when we had Princess Toadstool as a protagonist. I provided several examples of heroines prior to that.

Yeah, I have a daughter, but she doesn't really ask me that very much. She loves Zelda and she always plays as Link, but she's actually never asked me why she can't play as Princess Zelda.

This right here. All human respect to Ms. Sarkeesian, but I'm afraid she doesn't respect the capabilities of videogames enough to

The damsel in distress trope can work, but very few people/companies put enough effort into it so most of the time it's a lazy plot device. If you can replace the damsel with a sword/trophy/book/artifact/anything inanimate and the story still works (or work with a minor tweak or two) it's poor design and the damsel

Actually it makes sense in some contexts.

It makes perfect sense in Zelda for instance. She is the princess(therefore the villain knows where she is and she is important), one of the strongest magic users around, holder of a piece of the triforce and a sage iirc.

Kidnapping her would make perfect sense. Also it

It's funny how much Feminists selectively choose to omit things to suit their agendas.

I'm of your generation Totilo, and let me just say that not all people of our generation agree with your views on gender and games. In fact I find Kotaku's focus on the topic to be nearly obsessive.

Men have a strange innate desire to rescue/help women. This obviously is a bad trait that is a result of patriarchy and is evidenced in so many video games. Men, please suppress this inherent desire to be protective of women. A small minority of women and men find it offensive.

If this is cross posted with jezebel, then I see many arguments arising...again, and again...and again.
