I think there are plenty of people who have been critical of the story development in seasons 5-7. A small sample:

I’ve been loving this season but I’d agree that the further the writers get away from GRRM’s influence the stronger people’s plot armor has been getting. If they were still going off the books at this point it’s pretty fair to say a solid half-dozen or so leading characters would be dead instead of surviving…

This season has been so disappointing. The show-runners have basically admitted in their interviews that they decide upon “oh shit” moments or set pieces to end episodes, then reverse engineer everything to get there — timing, pacing or decision-making be damned. So the characters are dumber than ever and episodes now…
