Bringing Gendry to Cersei does nothing. She sees him, she kills him, the rest of the Seven Kingdoms still hates her guts for killing their family members. Bringing in Gendry to kill him is just tying up loose ends - ends that won’t get Euron married to Cersei.

Why would she win a popularity contest? The contest is for “fighters need apply” and if the choice is between Jon and Sansa, I’m picking the person who knows how to stick them with the pointy end.

I disagree. My view of Sansa is coloured by how she is in the books (so take that in stride). Sansa’s words were a gut reaction, not part of some pre-planned roleplaying with Jon. Their interaction’s tone was almost exactly like the tone between them last season when Jon was drawing up the battle plan to take on…
