In Norse mythology, a vardøger is a ghostly double who precedes a living person and is seen performing their actions in advance. In Finnish mythology, this is called having an etiäinen, i.e., “a firstcomer”.
It’s really interesting that you’ve seen/heard it multiple times.

The “Overlook Hotel” is actually the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. It’s notoriously haunted and inspired Stephen King to write the Shining when he stayed there. It’s a gorgeous place, and they have ghost hunts several times a season.
