Test Drive implies to me that the mechanic would take it out on a circuatous route, maybe on a couple of different road types to see how the car performs, and then right back to the dealership. Stopping to run personal errands is not what you would reasonably expect.

If it gets hit on a test drive, then sure, it needed to be test driven. If it gets a ding in a parking lot because you took it on an errand, did it need to be in a parking lot? Insurance will tell that dealer to fuck off. 

Should an adult really need to be told not to take a customer’s car for their own errands?
