Blizzard stopped reporting on D2 sales numbers after a couple years. There are no publicly disclosed numbers for total sales for the game, so there’s no way to do an accurate comparison. It’s the same reason why you can’t compare sales numbers of Morrowind to Oblivion or Skyrim.

I came to post the same thing. Diablo 2 has sold 4 million copies in its entire history, Diablo 3 had 4.7 million on its first day...

Diablo 3 has definitely outsold Diablo 2 but I’m not sure your “ten times” is based on anything other than you making up a number.

You also have to take into consideration that Diablo 3 is available on five times as many platforms.

Interesting suggestion in the Forbes article where you log in with your PSN/Live/Steam account. Imagine if Metacritic verifies that you earned the trophy/achievement that you usually get when you beat a game in order to write a review.
