Probably the biggest issue is how much money is tied up in American Health Care, to the point where it’s one of our larger businesses out there. To switch to non profit would be a VERY painful process that’d require nixing a lot of lobbyists, people in power, etc.

As an outsider, it just seems so stupid to watch the US struggle with this issue for years. Just suck it up and make everyone get insurance and have the government run essential health services as a non-profit.
