I wasn’t accusing these children of being drunk or careless. We had gone off on a related topic about victim blaming, and I was simply explaining that I emphasize to my own children to be careful/safe to try and avoid awful things from happening to them.

It rarely feels that way lol. Most of them were just surprised that we deal with this shit every day, but I had a few that were like “but it’s just a compliment.”

I think we also need to speak to our kids/loved ones in equal parts “be careful” and “don’t do that.” Which is hard, because we always want to believe that our loved ones would never, ever do that.
