I was thinking on this - the transit downtown isn’t bad ... and Irving is so close to DFW, someone that wanted to visit town could conceivably fly into DFW, rent a car (oh, what fun that is at DFW), and grab a hotel in Irving. Irving is pretty decent. Then they could take that train from Irving into Dallas proper and

The Arboretum/White Rock Lake in Dallas and the Botanical Gardens in Ft. Worth. Both have great zoos, but FW probably has the edge as best as I can remember.

The Perot is really great. And honestly, the museum district on the other end of downtown is pretty great too.

If you fly in, just Uber everywhere. If you drive: traffic isn’t that bad. Make sure your GPS device is updated or use Google Maps. Apple Maps will get you lost in a heartbeat because of all the construction.

Fort Worth: Thats where the west starts. Fort worth is a country land in a city. Visit Billy bobs bar in stockyards, country music concerts / bull riding etc in a bar (did i say live bull riding in a bar). Bass performance hall hosts worlds best international piano competition every year. Dont forget to take kids for

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck yes Taco Joint. Left Dallas five years ago and still dream about their refried beans.

Eating & Drinking

Dallas sucks, but its way cooler than when I was a kid growing up in the 80's and 90's. There is cool stuff to do, but only in certain pockets and it helps to know someone who lives there and knows where to go and how to get around.

Dallas is a city for locals more than for tourists. For living there, it has every convenience; every type of restaurant, every bar, every store, every mall, every concert or event. One of the best ways to visit Dallas is around some sort of event, then squeeze in a sampling of these services. Just be prepared to

If you come to Dallas a great fun and free activity is to ride the McKinney Avenue trolley which takes you all through downtown Dallas, uptown, and the West Village, and it rides to about 2 in the morning and you can hop on and Hop Off and you're able to visit all the bars and eateries and places of interest for free.

With the trail systems I referenced you very rarely need to be on a real road. The only exception would be downtown Dallas and even then they have bike lanes. I did say avoid the summer to be fair. I think it’s a pretty bikeable city but no one gives it a shot. No, it’s not great, but it definitely works.

Regarding drivers not being courteous toward bikers, this is the case in every American city. I’ve lived in the midwest and desert southwest and spent significant time in the northeast, it’s the same. I don’t see why it’s pertinent to point this out, it’s a fact of life in America. Dallas still is a fine place to

First, doing one post for DFW is kind of misleading, this place is HUGE! It all may look close on the map, but it’s better to think of DFW as two separate cities to visit that just happen to be near by. (Three cities if you include Arlington in between with all that it has to offer).

Riscky’s Steakhouse in the Stockyards for lunch is the best/cheapest steak meal you can get anywhere.

If you have kids, they’ll probably enjoy the free Dallas Museum of Art, Klyde Warren Park, and Perot Museum (check for reciprocity with your local museum memberships). The Nasher Sculpture Museum is pretty nice as well. All of these things are within 2 blocks of each other.

Those are great BBQ  joints. I’d also throw in Lockhart’s.

Drop whatever you’re doing and go to Uchi.  It’s like the best sushi bar you’ve ever been to, but also so much more than that.  And they’ve got all kinds of fun sakes you can’t find anywhere else.

Forgot DFW Korea town:

Dallas has some of my favorite food and the one thing I miss about living there, Maple and Motor has the best burger I have found, it is classic and just all around excellent. You order it “pink” or “not pink” and they actually cook it that way (unlike seemingly every burger place when asked how I want my burger

The Perot Museum of Natural Science has been a great somewhat recent addition to the city.
