If the Vanity Fair interview is any indication, then Pizzolatto always thinks he's cute.
The Spanish Prisoner comes to mind, now that you mention it.
"Jordan's insides were a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase….."
Not to be snarky, but all it tells me is that Nic P. trawled Google a bit for some quasi-literary references.
I'm having a tough time engaging with the narrative…though I'm only one episode in. The editing is fantastically choppy and rushed, and the camera's constantly jumping around, with almost no close-ups. The whole thing's cut together like one of those 'last-episode' summaries (i.e. "Previously on Lost.")

Tom Selleck is pilfering water from Burns Pacific?
You're thinking of 'The X-Files.'
Fred Ward is a great actor, and all.
That single line bought my interest in the fourth episode.
So maybe that headline, "CHP Solicits Sex for Letting Lacey Lindel Off", is a nod to screenwriter Damon Lindelof, of Lost fame (another show with Daddy issues.)
Like Ray said, "we all get the porn we deserve."
