I’d have put in bollards about 6 feet apart and decorated them with reflectors and lights. Where I live, if put them 15ft in from the sidewalk, its no longer considered “right of way”, so it makes it difficult for the city to do anything about it except for code enforcement.

Context is important, but so is not going for the low hanging fruit and claiming to be “edgy”.
