The thing about Picard is thaHe is t he should be a mess. Not for childhood trauma, but because of all of the shit we know he’s endured.

I think it’s fair to say that this movie was great *because* of Whedon and not in spite of him. I know it’s in vogue to declare that the guy is an irredeemable monster and dismiss all of his strengths as a result, but he is an incredible talent who has produced a lot of top-tier work.
I agree with Mackie’s larger point that fans should stop trying to read queer subtext into every close male relationship in film. People have been doing the shipping thing for a long time now in fandom circles, and it’s really not great. When there’s this push to say “oh, Frodo and Sam are definitely gay,” it degrades…
I’m honestly as tired as the “John McCain was a terrible terrible person who no one should say nice things about” pieces as the “John McCain was last of a rare and noble breed of American statesmen” pieces. Dude died just yesterday, and in my universe, it’s still poor manners to interrupt other people’s mourning with…
It’s been just over 15 years since Firefly fans were introduced to Captain Mal and the crew of the Serenity, and…
Umm, excuse me:

Regarding any video adaptation of a Stephen King literary work, Stephen King is the least reliable source of information, especially if he is directly involved.
What exactly do people want out of this show? Obviously it’s nowhere near being Star Trek level good, but TNG was even further away from being Star Trek level good in its first season. Most of the comedy misses rather than hits, but at this point I don’t care because The Orville is clearly a sci-fi drama, not a sci-fi…
If by underrated you mean universally praised, sure.
Doctor Who rarely does big character arcs. By its very nature it’s a transitory program: every week a new adventure,…
Nintendo: No one could come up with a worse name for a console than Wii U.
Am I the only one that wants to see Capaldi stay for another season or two as the Valeyard? Or even just a couple-episode bad guy? Because 12 was particularly crazy in this episode and it got me thinking how fun it’d be to watch Peter get to just act totally off-the-wall.
Y’all...that was bad. That was real bad. Bad enough that not even the guest appearance by Missy could save it. I don’t think I’ve seen a recent episode of Doctor Who so determined in its attempts to veer away from any good or interesting idea it might have stumbled across. And that dialogue!
“Caliente is spanish for…
Probably two weeks after the seasons end.
While everyone was crushing on Heath Ledger, I was over here rewinding the scene of Paul Bettany walking nekkid over and over and over again. And for that same reason I will enter one of my not-sci-fi favorite guilty pleasure movies:
No movie was ever worse for having Bill Paxton in it.
So, The Core? Is what I was thinking.
Can you imagine the uproar if white people were enslaved for hundreds of years, and after having been freed were still denied basic rights for another century, and then were denied the tools that would allow them to better their overall circumstance like decent education and access to housing and banking, and then…
Also thanks for abandoning Obama in 2010, when you didn’t get everything you wanted ASAP.
