Grim indeed. I view the role of government as one that is meant to correct imbalances and negative externalities, while making critical investments to ensure the long term prosperity, not just survival, of a nation (which is not a system but a people). Wealth and power have always been closely intertwined; and we find

And that’s why capitalism is failing, and it feels like it’s on purpose. Because it kind of is.

This definitely isn’t the forum for it, so I don’t want to argue, but it seems like no one who argues for capitalism is willing to say, “Wait, no... this isn’t how this is supposed to work.” Which might be a path to...

yeah if a company stock price can drop 4 billion dollars IN ONE DAY without a serious actual incident that says more about how overvalued and speculative the stock value was more than the actual value of the company.

A company’s stock price going down and causing the valuation to go down is not the same as “costing the company billions.”

the stock market is a barrel of fucking monkeys.  we really really dont need it.  all the money and numbers are made up.

Blame Jack Welch.

If you’re asking me here whether I feel bad for Ford packing it’s F-150 Lightning production mix exclusively at $80-$120,000 before its dealers tack on another five figures in additional markup. Because it’s taking it in the corporate shorts for soaking consumers to the point that they won’t buy in ...

I’d hardly hold a small collector who has “paid 4 figures for many titles” morally culpable for the tax evasion of the mega-rich or shadily funded. But just like responsible ownership of a goldfish doesn’t justify Orcas at SeaWorld, legitimate fandoms are different in kind from the sort of speculation and auctions

This right here.  Best to withhold any judgement for now to avoid looking the fool later.

A 4 gb iPhone is not part of anyone’s childhood, in any meaningful or plausible way. The likelihood that a person with a lot of cash might be interested in hiding assets with collectibles is vastly greater than the likelihood that they are interested in overpaying for a mass-produced piece of consumer electronics with

Not sure race has much to do with people believing it’s a hoax.

Agree. Nobody including police believed Denise Huskins, a California woman who was kidnapped many years ago, and dropped back off close to home. She is a white woman and was accused widely of perpetrating a hoax with her boyfriend. But it turned out she was telling the truth and she subsequently sued and won. I don’t

Probable cause? LOL. They barely need probable cause to search your vehicle. To pull you over? There are like a myriad of hundreds of outdated traffic laws in every state they can use to justify a stop. Minnesota doesn’t allow charms or anything to hang from your rear view mirror. Texas doesn’t allow license plate

I never understood why people shit on Xbox controllers for using batteries. I love having more options for how I can power my controllers (USB cable, rechargeable batteries [I use Eneloops and Amazon Basics], disposable batteries [which I don’t use, but they are an option], and battery packs).

It has zero to do with the fact that she is black. It has to do with the obvious inconsistencies in her story, the fact that police aren’t actively looking for a kidnapped toddler, and the complete lack of any evidence this ever happened.

Can you point out Jezebel’s full-throated defense of this woman?

How it should be.

It currently has one (1) direct competitor, the Hummer EV, which it may very very well outsell because GM has made five of them.

The good memories of dropping your phone and the cover and battery just flying everywhere XD

Okay, but how many innocent drivers have been identified and targeted by this system?

But unfortunately, the official photo shared to mark this momentous occasion almost entirely obscures the finished car.
