I feel like there is more to this family.

FULLY AUTOMATED LUXURY GAY SPACE COMMUNISM

Great read!

“One time, Jordan says, ‘I have to use the bathroom,’ and his mom goes with him. It was a very controlled environment.”

This is a great piece - thanks!

Why would Obsidian use Creation Engine stuff in an Unreal Engine game? Why would any self-respecting company steal code from one of the jankiest game engines in use?

Spread this on toast and serve it up pronto, because this is my jam!  I already liked the concept of this game and the pedigree that the creative team brought to the table.

Available on Epic Games Store and Xbox PC store, but it’s “exclusive” because it’s not on Steam.  That’s their feeling...

I think it makes perfect sense, in the internal logic of the game’s universe, that racism and sexism aren’t a factor. It’s the ultimate conclusion of corporate power - your identity doesn’t matter, only the value you generate for the company’s bottom line.

exism and racism don’t meaningfully exist even though race does; many of the people you meet across classes are black and brown.

I really hope this sells well. This type of game (single player, story-driven, with tons of options for character customization and playstyle) seems to be coming along more rarely these days amidst the annualized titles, battle royals, and looter shooters built around microtransactions, paid DLC and grinding.

I thought Obsidian also did a good job with handling the differing philosophies of government and economy in New Vegas.  On my first playthrough, I went all out in supporting the NCR because hey, they were the good guys right?  But on my second playthrough I recruited Arcade Gannon and listened to him a lot more.  I

It’s part of Xbox Game pass on PC, it’s not exclusive.
Exclusive means it’s just found in one place, this one can be bought in 2 places.
If you mean it’s not on Steam... that’s something else
But somehow I think you wouldn’t have had a problem with it if was exclusive to Steam

How does that ruin the game? I’m genuinely curious.

In case anyone else is confused as hell (like I was) by someone bemoaning this being an “exclusive” elsewhere in the thread given that it’s out on every possible system, I think they’re referring to this being an Epic Store exclusive.

Also, the thesis can be that a futuristic society can eventually get past racism and sexism, but wealth will always rule.

It’s odd that you call the similarity to Fallout the elephant in the room. The entire reason I’ve been hype as fuck about this game for months is that I fully expect it to be New Vegas in space. There may be an elephant in the room, but I'm only in the room because I want to hang out with the elephant.

Truly this game went from Meh to Must Have because of your writing. Thank you.

Heck yeah, I’m truly heartened to know the game deals with labor and class so openly. So many games limit their critiques of capitalism to “big corporation EVIL” and leave it at that. I get your frustration with the way it ignores racism & sexism, but I also kinda thing maybe it’s for the best that they limited their

I get to be a gun-slinging space Socialist?
