Why not both?

Wait, did anybody think True Detective was mainly about "the true misery of the 21st century, i.e. late capitalism"? Anyone?

Reposting from my comment two days ago, because I can't think of a better way to rephrase it:

I hate to think what this would be like if these were Pizzolatto's original ideas, and they just happened to be very similar to Ligotti's.

We're excluding riled fanboys and people lacking brains.

You need to rewatch the show.

Too many characters. My comment would lack sufficient punch.

That's pretty cool; I'd wondered why Lovecraft was so widespread, beyond just appreciation for his work.

I was really impressed by his original characters Rorschach and Night Owl. Truly, I have never before seen their like.

They're not even direct quotes, anyway. Hell, half the examples are amalgamations of several other lines.

That's a shame. In my head I have an image of Ligotti saying how he enjoyed the show and appreciated the reference, while Davis and Padgett start re-evaluating their little ill-conceived crusade.

I was going to reply that I hope Padgett and Davis read your comment, but then I realised someone's probably already said the same to them and they've probably engineered some thin justification for why it's "not the same."

Well, no, but it was written, so it doesn't matter.
And yeah, their evidence is shaky, and it doesn't help that they include sentences such as "I’m not sure how anyone can view the above video or read these quotes side by side, and not see blatant plagiarism."

"MD: Do you represent Thomas Ligotti in any way?

Well explosives can be useful outside of killing people, whereas I'm hard pressed at the moment to think of an example where a gun would be useful outside of directly hurting someone.

"Bruce was willing going to go either decision Superman made."
I took it a different way; that he knew Superman had to back down by himself, and he trusted Clark to do so.

A fantastic end to a fantastic story arc. I like how nice and quiet the very end of it is, with just Lois and Clark.
"I'm gonna cut him a break. He's only human…you know what I mean."
"Yeah. I do."
Had the DCAU ended there, I wouldn't have complained.

As most of this episode consists of controlled clones of characters we met once fighting superheroes who've been in, at most, two or three episodes (and most of them none at all) while six of the original seven basically sit this episode out, I consider it to be the weakest of the Cadmus Arc; but only in comparison to

Well, no one said that show's giving Stannis and co. the attention they deserve.

They didn't get better in the following eleventh months, unfortunately.
