Even just a title card, as hated as those can be would have cushioned some of the blow of Immortal.

So while the outrage was ridiculously over the top it was also an entirely self-inflicted one too then?

Wow. I bet someone’s regretting THAT decision.

Hahaha, absolutely savage.  Not-undeserved, but definitely savage! 😂😂😂

Much of the hate is coming more from how this was announced and handled by Blizzard, rather than the game itself. This scene in particular is where much of the hate comes from

Okay, I object.

I just wanna know how many steps down the ladder from the C-Suite you have to go before finding somebody who knew this was a terrible idea. Because *somebody* at Blizzard has to understand 1) that a lot of gamers weren’t going to like this and B) how gamers tend to respond to things they don’t like.

The problem is Blizzcon is specifically designed for thatless than half a percent of active Diablo players” they are the exact people who would hate the idea of a mobile game. Your right Diablo Immortal isn’t designed for these people so why announce it in this forum. I don’t understand how they didn’t see this

Not to mention Nintendo did this with Metroid Prime 4 and Samus Returns (Freaking Nintendo who I love but who is kinda outta touch at times)

I think it’s also important to note that Hearthstone wasn’t announced at Blizzcon- it was announced at PAX. They seemed to have the foresight that an entry into digital card games probably wasn’t the best announcement for the sorts of hardcore fans that attend BlizzCon. And that was an in-house project!

Same thing with Bethesda’s E3 presentation. If all they did was show an Elder Scrolls Mobile game, fans would be pretty angry. But then they showed a short clip with the Elder Scrolls VI logo and all was forgiven.

With what appears to be 90% re-used assets.

It’s weird that they saw what happened to EA with Command & Conquer going to phones, and thought “let’s emulate that feeling of complete betrayal from our fanbase”.

Oh boy! A mobile midquel of a classic game with simplified and imprecise touch-screen controls, in a genre known for needing precision and careful actions!

The complete silence from the crowd after the video says everything about what a misstep this is considered by the fanbase. Easily the worst received announcement of the keynote, and the one they had hyped up the most.

I know they’re mainly known for their darker tone, but Batman Begins and The Dark Knight have some HILARIOUS moments.

You mean he’s being authentically middle-class English with the banter, humility, and wit.

I love the moment in Begins when he tells Bruce, “What is the point of all those push-ups if you can’t even lift a bloody log?” And Bruce just gives him this look like, “motherFUCKER.”

Man, am I the only one who still thinks The Dark Knight is an all-time great? Well, I’ll carry this burden. 2008 was a weird moment overall for superhero movies—even at the time, without the benefit of hindsight, you could feel things changing.
