To be fair, Icarus didn’t take anyone higher, he just bit it.

Chris Roberts may have been a legendary game dev back in the day with creative vision but he is now a CEO who NEEDS to be able to set deadlines, production goals, budgets, etc and ensure they get delivered.

Star Citizen is taking so long because it’s in the developers interests to drag it out as long as possible while money is still pouring in. When that revenue stream starts to dry up is when things will start being released.

And yet:

The funding for the game reached ages ago, and people are not forced to fund anymore.

Man, at this point I just wish this game came out already, so we can be done with hearing about it.

It’s funny all I really wanted was another Chris Roberts single player ship game in the style of Wing Commander.

Well for starters:

At this point, much like Eternal Crusade, the hype train is slowing down and will be replaced by frustration and disinterest. Unless your game is ready for beta trials, I don’t want to hear about it, because all you’re doing at that point is making promises you may not be able to keep.

87 million isn’t as staggering when you consider people paying real money to buy one ship that, at a minimum, costs $25, with the great majority costing $150+. Some even going into the 10k range. ALL FOR A VIRTUAL SHIP.

“That was a lot, but it still wasn’t what we were gonna make the game for because we had private investors lined up.”

To be fair, does this article strike you as having nothing but mercy?

If someone doesn’t reign Roberts in, I feel like this could quickly turn into a George Broussard/Duke Nukem Forever situation where the man in charge just continually adds and jettisons ideas.

Don’t get why so many are so willing to jump in and defend against any criticism made against Star Citizen. It doesn’t matter what Roberts’ credentials are or how amazing they’ve said it will be, fact remains that it has the budget rivaling most AAA games and is a year over schedule with not a great deal to show for
