I would call people living in violent neighborhoods survivors - there have been studies showing that even just living somewhere with high levels of violence can cause PTSD-type trauma in kids.

I’m 35 and I’ve never had a serious relationship. I’m now actively trying to make changes in my life so that I can try to foster-to-adopt. It may not be the “traditional” family but this is my life and I’m not going to sit around and wait for something that may o rmay not happen.

You are very lucky. I have insurance (good insurance, even, and affordable) through my employer and I have waited 3-6 months to see specialists.
