Well WoW has done it, but not as money grubbing as Bungie seems. By changing the levels of older dungeons and raids. They did completely remove the vanilla Azeroth with the Cataclysm expansion, but even then the players who didn’t get the expansion could still play the game and access the revamped vanilla content.

The big thing is Nar Shadaa being canon again.

Still the big deal about Shadows of the Empire at the time was Lucas putting on the same canon level of the films and even paid for it to have its own music score.
