Canadian history is no better, really (although many people here like to think it is... but I think that says more about what history is taught and whose history is taught here than anything else.)

Yeah it's pretty much the same here. If people ask about my ancestry I just say "mostly Russian Euro-mutt" and if I am ever asked to self-identify (which is usually only when someone hasn't seen me/I'm writing papers) I always say I'm white. I don't feel like I could ever be anything else; I look white, I was raised…
Yeah that's basically what my sister looks like - like almost to a T. Her skin is not super dark or anything but very olive toned, which is quite the contrast to super white/pink toned me.
As for wording - good to know! I usually try to use the terms a person is comfortable with but not everyone discloses that, so…
Yes. My sister and I look COMPLETELY different, all because there is some NA in my family as well (very, very little. I mean, if you've been on the continent long enough most people do) but it just jumped RIGHT down and landed up in my sisters DNA. People have seen photos of her as a child and commented on how nice it…
I don't know. I don't think it's my favourite of the night either, however I get more of an "ancient Greece" vibe from the dress-headband combo than anything else. But that could totally be just me - my partner is just finishing up his MA in classical archeology so I've been seeing ancient Greece in a lot of things…
"Jensen has signed a plea deal with prosecutors to testify against McElfish. He's pleaded guilty to second-degree kidnapping and second-degree assault, but has not yet been sentenced."
The ex-boyfriend has already plead guilty. Also you are assuming that she wants to press charges - I'm not sure about this jurisdiction…
Yes because the only way to deal with this issue was to get arrest a woman who has been held hostage - thanks for the trauma sensitivity, guys. I wasn't particularly looking at this through a feminist lens either, but thanks for assuming that. I was assessing the situation through my knowledge of trauma informed…
I know. Just when my headache went away I came on here and read this and it's back. THANKS JUSTICE SYSTEM!
Yeah. If it's not even mandated for social workers at this point (or at least it isn't in the BSW curriculum in Canada) then I don't see it suddenly appearing elsewhere. I'll just hold onto my fantasy for now...
One of my biggest dreams is for want cops to have trauma training. Scratch that - any profession that has that level of human contact. This would seriously make me so happy. I know it's likely not going to happen in my lifetime but what a dream....
Not to mention that this could be so very, very, re-traumatizing.
I want to write a coherent response to this but all I can come up with is "what the fucking fuck." I am in absolute awe that the justice system seems to involve so little in the way trauma training. Words can't describe how fucked up this is.
Agreed! If my children are anything like me, and I'm sure they will be, being a stay at home parent would probably prove to be a much more daunting task going to work (and to put that into perspectiveI'm in the process of becoming a social worker...so work can get ROUGH).
Well obviously. I sincerely do not understand people who do not seem to get the whole "choice" aspect of feminism. It's not cool for society to dictate that women must stay in the home and be wives and mothers. It's also not cool for women to dictate to other women that it's unacceptable to get a bitchin' education…
I'd say so. I know this isn't the case, but if women mad up, for example, only 5% of total flight attendants, then those numbers would be too high to generalize to flight attendants of all genders as opposed to just women.
I volunteer once a week at the sexual health clinic in a high school and they did not get time off to watch the game, sadly (unless they were watching it in individual classrooms, I guess, but the school is old and I don't think it has that many TVs). I brought my laptop in today so we could stream it, so at least…
It makes me feel awesome about mine too - but only because for the longest time I thought it was weird that I didn't want more than 10 minutes of actual penetration. In fact this list was downright relieving - I'm on the high end of it! YES!
Story time: I knew a woman who was a mail order bride from Russia in the 90s. Gorgeous lady (she was a model) with a degree from Moscow University. She apparently had all these "pen pals" who she would go on dates with an then ended up picking the best one and marrying him. Now, I was quite young at the time so this…
I ordered some for my Mom through FTD last year as well and she didn't receive them at all. I called after they didn't arrive and they assured me they would go out the next day. Nothing. Then I called again and they told me that, actually, they couldn't deliver my order to her area (a suburb of Vancouver - so not a…
...and even if this weren't the case, it's not like diagnosis of these things is black and white. It can take a LONG time. So yeah, it can be that hard.
