Yeah man, a 15 year old car that struggles to get 22 MPG on a GOOD day is a great option. 

I can get a nicely equipped Lexus GS for that price, why would I want a car that is not as quick, not as reliable, depreciates worse, and is costlier to fix when the warranty is up?  Yes, the spindle grill sucks, but the GS is probably the least offensive application of it.

Buick is putting $0 into marketing these gems. Tom McParland has probably sold more of them than any given Buick sales person.

Lack of marketing, lack of marketing staff that know how to market this car, lack of dealer inventory/ floorplan, etc, etc, etc.

I seriously looked at one of these to replace my WRX, the deals are spectacular, but what you label as a minor quibble was an absolute deal breaker for me: the 8 speed transmission.

I wish they offered the Opel looking version here in the US sans plastic cladding and SUV look.
