I’m seeing a nice bike basket in your future for the groceries. This really changed how I used my bike in Portland OR. I haven’t embraced the bike cargo thing, yet. But for short grocery runs, you almost burn the calories that you hauling back to your place.
Yeah, I know quite a few people in NYC and DC who are parents who don’t own cars. The city has the infrastructure for it and having a car is more of a hindrance. You can Lyft, Car2Go or Zip Car when you need it. Or a lot of them just borrow a relative’s car if they really need it.
Kevin, it’s quite rare. The majority of transportation network companies (TNCs) serve as a complement to transit riders, rather than as an exclusive mode of transportation. TNCs are most frequently used as a first/last mile solution for the beginning and/or end of a trip. Of course, there are always exceptions to…
Haven’t had a car for 8 years. I live in the DC area about a 2-mile walk from my office. Usually I use a bike, Car2Go, or Uber/Lyft. Sometimes I rent a car from Enterprise.
Literally the golden ticket - thanks Willy Wonka
I haven’t been out since 2014. I’ll take your word for it!
I mean we don’t drive that much... because we are surrounded by everything we need and all our friends live nearby - I think the farthest I drive to do anything is visit my cousin in Plainfield and its only 30 minutes away.
I will also drop that my house in the suburbs is paid off (its my parents house, and I take care of my ill mother - they had it paid off, we put like 30k into flipping it) and I just pay taxes ($6,6k a year).
In broad strokes, the media’s take of Chicago happens mostly south of downtown. north and northwest are all wonderful neighborhoods. West of the loop has been getting nicer and nicer, even the in few years i’ve lived here.
I heartily second this, especially if you’re trying to get to/from Sears/Willis Tower from Michigan Ave or Navy Pier
Agree, if I have to live somewhere like this, I would just rent a car when I need it instead of dealing with all the BS.
Whether you’ve moved back in with your parents or you’re renting out a room, living in someone else’s space can make…
We bought (and it was on sale for super cheap the day we bought it - maybe 25?) inexpensive but good mr coffee espresso maker. We use it often and rarely get starbucks unless it’s a freebie or special occasion. It’s exactly what we wanted since we make lattes and it’s easier than making the trek to starbucks with the…
The name of the app: Simple
Serious question:
Google+ hangouts is also better than Skype not just for providing free group video chat, which Skype only allows if one of you is a premium member, but it also supports doing so from a phone or tablet.
The other nice thing about the LycaMobile 2 cent voice/4 cent text/6 cent per MB data is that the money in your account doesn't expire as long as you use *something* from the account within two or three months (I forget what the cutoff is). In other words the funds rollover perpetually in actual use. Most other…
A big mistake many people make is failing to cross the suburban—urban divide. They snuggle up to the city but don't quite get into it, retaining their semi-rural life as much as possible. If they went just a little further, they could dump the car completely (i.e. not even own one) and it's not the only advantage.
