I think it’s a cost issue? According to this article, he’s owed 65% of his contract (~$5.1 million, currently) if fired without cause. His contract’s definition of “cause” does include “insulting behavior towards student-athletes,” but some legal scholars don’t consider “death” an insulting behavior.

I’m honestly surprised he didn't blame the DNC and point to the return address as proof.
