I think it works if you reverse it, i.e., the Republicans were trailing, kicked a field to win, and now the Democrats are trying to change the rules. That analogy seems to work even if it is dumb.

Are we sure he called him safe? The timing of the call suggests safe, but the arm movement looks like a punch out before it cuts off.

I too need some explanation and this one doesn’t seem to cut it. If you look at the video at the :01 mark, every defender except the goalie is outside the penalty box while the ball is being dribbled up the side and two guys from the opposing team are hanging out in the goalie box. Howe are they not offside?

Maybe it was a reaction to the backlash, OR could this have been the plan all along? The board of regents find no wrongdoing—to avoid admitting fault for a student’s death—and then fire the coach anyway (because he/they was/were, of course, at fault).
