Employment lawyer here—this is correct. As I tell clients all the time, anyone anywhere can sue anyone else anywhere for anything they want. Whether or not they will ultimately be successful in their lawsuit is a different story, but it can be a tremendous waste of time, money, and other resources to defend against

He’s been doing races for a while now so he has plenty of experience. And he is good.

Please name a professional commentator from the world cup circuit who is NOT a former high level ski racer.

Exactly. Without the explanation, the casual viewer isn’t going to have any idea what the gold medalist did differently than the 2-5,6,7... racers.

This is the correct take on Bode Miller as a commentator. The “play-by-play” guy is supposed to be the one going “Ooooooh a bit wide on that turn!” “Oh no a crash! Now he/she is heading for the fence!” Bode is supposed to tell you why those things happened and he does, sometimes before they do.

I think you have this backwards. The Olympic-sport fan wants to watch the sport and probably already knows the backstory. The casual/regular TV viewer wants the “human” story.

Why are you so convinced she would bring “a lot more” insight than Bode? They were equally successful in their sport. Bode is the greatest male American ski racer and Lindsay the greatest female American ski racer (at least for now).

This is accurate. Start orders are determined the same in alpine skiing in youth, college, smaller events, etc. where there is no TV broadcast of any kind.

As someone that times ski races, it is pretty accurate with two electronic timing systems required for most races, and all sorts of rules about syncing them to within .001 accuracy of each other.

That ghost overlay of Holdener and Shiffrin in Run 1 really showed how much straighter Holdener was going. Shiffrin was very round above the gate. Probably not a particularly challenging set. Too lazy to check out the DNF rate of the top 30 or so.

I watched this a few times and can’t find the “burn” or where she touched it. Am I dumb? Can someone give me a time to stop the video at?

Agree it’s the combined. A little surprised she’s not racing Super G over the Downhill but I’m not familiar with the design/style of the courses.

Seeing a lot of comments about how close the time was, and it was close. Ski races, particularly technical events, come down to hundredths of a second as was the case with her being 0.08 out of bronze. I assume most Deadspin commenters have never been to a ski race, let alone a World Cup ski race, but I think the

And .08 of a medal.

I’m sure this won’t be popular with the Deadspin crowd, but Golic and Wingo actually educated me on this last week (or even the week before)? So there’s that to be said about that show. (Their “everybody pyeong-’chung’ tonight” clip reinforced it too.)

I am more interested about who the other candidates were in regard to Davis’s apparent argument(s). E.g., if skiing’s rep was Lindsey Vonn, well, she’s had plenty of firsts and done plenty of American record-setting. The racial make-up of the other candidates might be relevant to his implication that race was a factor.

And another example of how AWESOME Bode is as a commentator.

My FIRST thought as well.

No impact on World Cup standings. They take a break for the Olympics. No World Championships in Olympic years—they are held in between.

Bode is so good. He is to skiing as a commentator as Tony Romo is to football (depending on your opinion of Romo as a commentator I guess, I like him).
