Um, the purpose of the letter is to argue her case and why she shouldn’t go to jail. Of course it hasn’t to be about her. Are you thick?

Agree. But Americans are obsessed with punishment instead of actual justice and rehabilitation.

It’s pretty clear the government sentencing request was political, I’d be pissed if I was the judge too since it’s his record that will be blemished if it’s overturned on appeal. 12 years on probation seems insane for a non-violent crime. Surely that is wasting resources that could be used elsewhere.

They’re not. But what they do have in common is that they’re both far more severe than what Huffman did and it makes sense to sentence their perpetrators to jail time,  unlike what Huffman did. Which is the point I was making.

Still think restorative justice might have taken the form of a college fund for kids who actually want to go to a highly selective college, and have the academic chops to get in, but can’t afford it.   The amount would have had potentially plenty of zeroes, proportioned to the net worth of the accused and large

Judge says she poses no further danger, but my bet is that with this slap on the wrist, she's going to have more kids just to fraudulently get them into college.

Methought the Huffman letter was pretty decent. She mea culpas several times, states abundantly clear that her choices are not excusable, notes the shame she feels is “something I will carry for the rest of my life as motivator for better choices,” etc.

Martha actually went to prison & knit a cool poncho while she was there!

I’m glad the judge agreed. 12 years supervised release for what she did was fucking ridiculous. This is pretty clearly shade at the prosecutors:

Which would be fitting given what she did. It’s not like she raped anyone or robbed a bank. People need to chill with their over the top class resentment.

If you haven’t seen it, Christina Tucker has a pretty good take on this mess.

Hell’s Angels that’s funny!

If you can’t make it work in Santa Clara, just do what we did and move everything to Altamont!

Same offer I made to the Raiders, come to Fresno. Play 8 sold out games a year to 40,000 insane people. Buy an open plot of land for close to zero dollars and build a 80,000 person stadium. Then when high speed rail is complete the whole state can hope on a train and travel only 60 minutes and see them in the best

Edit: Every fifty years you can count on a Rolling Stones concert *an hour away from* San Francisco ending in a fracas.

Yeah, methinks the Niners figured they’d just flex their NFL muscle over lowly city officials and ignore the curfews until the city relented but they haven’t. A “look at what we’ve brought to your city!” scenario that Santa Clara would eventually cave in to.

Would you say they can’t get no....Satisfactory resolution to this situation?

They had a good team last year as well. The AL West is essentially the A’s, the Astros and Mike Trout

I will say this for the A’s - they don’t draw as many fans as they should, but the fans who do show up are great. I was at the Coliseum (which is an endearing and kind of homey old concrete shitpile that feels like it just got done hosting a livestock exhibition) last month and the ~20,000 people who were there were

The point that the Dems were, after being told there would be no votes taking place, attending memorial services honoring the heroes and victims of 9/11, which to be honest is what the NC Republicans should have been doing, and likely would have been doing had they not concocted this sleazy scheme.
