I also love this line from 3rd gear, “Electric vehicles are a net good for the world.”

I’m just gonna let the Great David Tracy far more eloquently explain why vilifying PHEVs because they aren’t a full EV is smooth brain retarded.

Give me a PHEV with 40ish miles of all electric range and I will drive fully electric for 90% of my miles. Is that perfect, maybe not, but it’s a helluva lot better than all gas all the time.  My current car is a non-plug-in hybrid that consistently manages about 25% electric miles, but that’s still well below 90%.

Agreed on all counts. I think it’s misguided to think of hybrids and PHEVs as interim steps along a steady march to full electrification. For some owners those technologies will always be a better choice than EVs for a variety of reasons. It’s widely understood that the manufacturing of EVs causes more carbon

I feel like it’s more of a practicality question

Plus the fact that hauling around a 1-ton battery designed for 300 mile trips is not the right tool to commute 25 miles per day. It’s much more beneficial to have 6-10 PHEVs on the road running mostly electric vs just 1 BEV running full electric.

Agreed, this seems like a reactionary hot-take just to be edgy. I have a fair number of friends rocking plug in hybrids and full EVs, and the consensus is the cost per mile is much lower on the plug in’s than the full EVs. Additionally, the amount of time they’re running on plug in power for the PHEVs is quite high.

true, and I’m not holding it against it because it was an 18 year old vehicle when that happened, so theoretically that could happen to any 18+ year old car. The issue was that these had a weld point directly in the middle of the frame rails to hold the front and back assemblies together.

The long established law in this country is that there is no expectation of privacy out of the streets. But there is an expectation of privacy inside your home. So telephoto and infrared lens peering through your windows would be illegal. But if you are doing something illegal outside your house and the police cameras

I had a 2006 and had one engine failure before getting a second Atlas i5 motor. The thing was ripe with electrical gremlins that were not inhibiting, but just annoying, and last year, the frame finally cracked in half at one of the weld points in the center of the truck between the cab and box. That fail point was

Our own insurance advised us against just filing with them since they would most likely raise our rates for a claim.....

Last year we bought a ‘22 Chevy Bolt EV, and liked it so much that earlier this year we replaced it with a ‘23 Chevy Bolt EUV. To me, the biggest mistake Chevy is making is cancelling the Bolt and pushing all customers up to the Blazer EV (which starts at $49K).

Can we talk about car insurance? Got a bill last month and mine is up 28.6 percent from 1 year ago. I’m a 50-something guy driving a 14 year old 160k Ford. My rates are supposed to trend down not up. As it stands now, my monthly expense for insurance is often more than gas. One more reason I’ll probably be delaying a

I think I know what you meant but this stopped my uncaffeinated brain dead in it’s tracks:

I typically keep my cars for about 10 years. Honestly, if you stay on top of the maintenance and keep them clean, a car from 10 years ago is just as nice and functional (and about as safe) as a car from a decade ago. The amazing savings from not having a constant and always-increasing monthly payment is icing on the

I think “distracted pedestrians” would not so much affect by which car they get hit, rather just the general accident statistics.

I posted a similar comment. My parents had warranty repair multiple times on their trailer with no problems.

Also, yes, the RV repair guy I know has a 6 month lead time typically speaking.

Maybe government agencies do? I’ve read stories about people retiring with decades of accrued PTO and getting hundreds of thousands for the payout.

Yep. If I buy a Wrangler or Bronco I know what the tradeoffs are, and I also know I am buying it to go places a CRV won’t. Perhaps they should knock all these cute crossovers for looking like they promise adventures they can’t deliver.

I think you are right, especially in cars where everything is controlled on the screen.  It is impossible to not take your eyes off the road to adjust temp or change the music.
