Unfortunately, the new showrunner wants a clean slate like Moffat had when he started. That means a new Doctor and a new companion. Nardole and Bill appear to be leaving us by season's end.

To repeat what I said elsewhere: season 19 had the right balance of episodic and serialized storytelling, even if the finale got messy. Season 20 has been a mess pretty much all the way through. This is not South Park's strength.
